Deadly Passage is a multi-layered, high seas, adventure-thriller novel of bioterrorism in a post 9/11 world. Soon it becomes clear that they’ve inadvertently rescued two homegrown terrorists intent on bringing a deadly virus to the Miami area. Soon the disease is full-blown, sealing the fates of the terrorists and all those they encounter. Andy, Jesse, and Rachel must deal with the unwanted guests, their disease, the Cuban Navy, an approaching hurricane, and the U.S. Coast Guard turning them away from safety, operating under the influence of conflicting political and operational motivations in the Department of Homeland Security, the Coast Guard, and the oval office. The shocking and unexpected denouements leave us twisting in uncertain winds reminiscent of On the Beach.

This is a five star book: and five stars means; It’s one of the those story you can’t stop reading and when the morning come upon you and you have to put the book down with a whole lot of resentment towards the responsibility that is keeping you away from finishing the book .Reading this story was like the waves that kept getting powerful and instanced. It kept you wanting to keep turning the pages to see what happens next. And in the end I kept thinking that this plot could really happen to us; if it hasn’t already.
I have always been that lazy relaxing sailing passage, you know the one that just sits back and enjoying the wind sun and water in my face, and waves at all the other boaters. But after reading this book I now have a much higher regard for the crew that brings it all about.
When I finished reading this book I kept thinking that this storyline would be a great movie. That seeing the effects happening before us would enhance the drama and sitting on the edge of your seat.

I don't say this about very many books, but I couldn't put this one down. Good strong characters, and locals. I was sweating it out for awhile there. Surprise ending, that's for sure. Loved it.
Excellent book. Had I looked closer at the summary of the book, I probably would not have gotten it. But I loved it. A real page turner! About a family whose been sailing around the world for 5 years, then decide to go home. Many things happen, and there's a lot of sailing jargon that I didn't know, but learned quickly. Many highlights include bioterrorism, Cuba.and hurricanes. I would recommend this book to anyone.
This is a fantastic but believable story of a family sailing in the Caribbean Sea. The father, mother, daughter, and pet dog take what might be their last sail on their faithful sail boat. One day they run across a capsized boat with two young people on it. A brother and sister are seriously ill but now rescued by the family boaters. What is the strange illness the brother and sister have? How did they end up on a dismasted boat?
Lawrence Gold does not disappoint. This book has everything hurricane, terrorists, and deadly illness.
The main characters are likable and believable. Even the bad guys are relatable.
Suspense is woven into the story from early on until the very last pages.
Dr. Gold just improves his craft with every book he writes. Don't miss this one!
This is a great book. I loved all the drama, the politics and the emotions that appeared on almost every page. But I did not understand the tremendous amount of sailing jargon and as I swam my way through it, I almost gave up on the book. This is a cool story for someone who knows sailing language such as jibs, unfurling, masts, and such. It is now midnight and I can now close this book and go to bed.
This was not a story that I would normally read, but I was curious... And I couldn't stay away from it. High seas, storms, sailboat, and a small family with their dog meeting other cruisers and new places and people for 5 years. And then, their life turned upside down.
I only gave it a 4 star because it became a bit tiresome for me to read about how to manage a sailboat. I sorta sailed through those parts, no pun intended. But that is just a landlubber's view. The writing is very good and the author, who is a doctor, is well versed in medical knowledge and must be one terrific sailor. It starts out with a nice family of 3, on their own ship, cruising the Caribbean. The author did an excellent job of showing us how this loving family lived at sea for 5 years and was now headed to FL. They wanted to start a new chapter of their lives with their feet on land. What they encounter will keep you turning the pages. The plot includes home grown terrorists, the U.S. Government, Cubans, Muslims and a hurricane. I never suspected his ending. Great ending!!!
